Five moves

chess problem

Two people are playing chess. White begins by moving pawn to e4, and the game ends with the knight taking rook, and mate.  What were the moves in the game?

This puzzle has apparently stumped many smart people, including Garry Kasparov, Anatoly Karpov, Mikhail Botvinnik, and Ken Thompson.

1. e4 Nf6
2. f3 Nxe4
3. Qe2 Ng3
4. Qxe7+ Qxe7+
5. Kf2 Nxh1#

(Note that White’s 2nd and 3rd moves can be reversed in order)
